Had It- a block daily report.

Matt and I have started grinding block dailies again, and we’ve decided to play the deck with all of the best cards in the format. Here’s the list we’ve been battling with:

Main
4 Wall of Omens
4 Explore
3 Oracle of Mul Daya
3 Journey to Nowhere
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Deprive
2 Avenger of Zendikar
4 Day of Judgment
2 Sphinx of Lost Truths
3 Gideon Jura

4 Misty Rainforest
3 Forest
5 Plains
3 Celestial Colonnade
4 Island
2 Halimar Depths
4 Stirring Wildwood
2 Evolving Wilds

Sideboard
1 Oracle of Mul Daya
1 Journey to Nowhere
2 Oust
3 Kor Firewalker
3 World Queller
2 Dispel
2 Pitfall Trap
1 Pelakka Wurm

I have so far found no reason to play a deck in this format that doesn’t have both Jace and Gideon in it. They are the most powerful cards in the format, and combo well together. This list has a weakness to All is Dust and utility lands, but otherwise, I think most matchups are pretty favorable.

We took this into a daily, where much dome’ing occurred.

R1 – v. Mono red

Each game, our opponent started on at least one Goblin Guide, so we took a lot of damage early.

Game 1 our start was too slow to keep up, and we got burned out.

Games 2 and 3 we had a Day, followed by a Kor Firewalker or Gideon, and he couldn’t keep up. Game 3 was sealed by the gain-7 of Pelakka Wurm

1-0

R2 – v. Mono green / Eye of Ugin

Game 1 our opponent ramped quickly, and we couldn’t keep up. The first Eldrazi got Journey’ed, but when he tutored for Ulamog, we were really dead.

Game 2 mulled to 6, opening hand was 4land 2xExplore. After a couple turns, the board was lands and Lodestone Golem v our lands and World Queller. Matt had tagged in, and didn’t realize he could name artifact with Queller. He got roadhoused……. Didn’t actually matter, cause our deck is that good. 2 kicked-Sphinx later, and he was dead.

Game 3 he started a little slowly, and we played an early World Queller. Queller showed off his strengths here, where we named lands for a couple turns, and he was having a significant amount of trouble getting enough mana to do anything. He then played a Chalice kicked twice. We had the answer though, and named artifact with Queller…… He was soon very dead.

2-0

R3 – Mirror

Game 1 we mulled to 5, and our opponent played Jace on 3. The end.

Game 2 we played Jace on 4. He played a manland on 4. We brainstormed into Deprive on 5. The end.

Game 3 we played Jace with Deprive backup. Then World Queller. He cast Spreading Seas targeting Celestial Colonnade. Things got really awkward for him when he took 8 next turn. He was soon very dead.

*Note, if our opponent had been more aggressive with manlands Game 2, we may have had trouble even though we had Jace and he didn’t.

3-0

R4 – Vamps

Game 1 we played a Wall of Omens. He Smothered. Rinse and repeat. Then we played 2x Avenger of Zendikar and a fetchland. Team 4/5’s to the dome.

Game 2 he missed his third land drop, and we cast Journey, Explore, and kicked-Sphinx of Lost Truths.

4-0 not close

Ending thoughts
This deck is insane. Not close. Play this deck, end of discussion. This deck is so far ahead of everything everybody else is doing in block. For future events, I’m updating to include Spreading Seas in the main deck. In all of the non-Red matchups today, Seas would’ve been insane.  Other changes include changing Dispel to Spell Pierce and adding the 4th Kor Firewalker to the board. Updated list is below.

Main
3 Journey to Nowhere
3 Day of Judgment
4 Spreading Seas
2 Sphinx of Lost Truths
3 Deprive
3 Oracle of Mul Daya
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Explore
1 Avenger of Zendikar
4 Wall of Omens
3 Gideon Jura

5 Plains
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Stirring Wildwood
4 Island
3 Celestial Colonnade
3 Forest
2 Evolving Wilds
1 Halimar Depths

Sideboard
1 Journey to Nowhere
2 Spell Pierce
1 Day of Judgment
4 Kor Firewalker
1 Oracle of Mul Daya
3 World Queller
2 Pitfall Trap
1 Recurring Insight

Now off to waste my 11 packs on some RRR drafting….ahh, the trouble I have to go through…my life sucks… (just jokes’in)

@Mike
Definitely
Not even close
Also cause you get Wall of Omens.

Pretty sure Gideon is the best card in the format, and Wall and Day are both in the top 10.
And I'll take Journey over Searing Blaze any day
