April 20th - Legacy LoamBrews

I've got the itch again.

No, not that one.

If you've ever sat across from me in a Legacy match, there are certain truths you may know:

1.  There's probably Tarmogoyf in the deck.
2.  There's a very high likelihood of there being Wasteland somewhere in the 75.
3.  If there are blue cards in it, be prepared for multiple misplays every game (I'm not very good with blue cards).

It's most fun when there's all 3.  Fun for me, that is.

The question, more often, what variation is it?  And why not include every other color?

In an aggressive Loam variation, there are certain truths that I abide by when brewing:

1.  This deck operates off of building a mana advantage, Green Sun lets you build it early if you don't have a Mox.
2.  You need to have at least two separate ways of generating card advantage, both not operating off of the same resource.  Life from the Loam and Dark Confidant do this nicely.
3.  Don't rage when you unintentionally dredge Spell/Spell/Spell.

Why have I never seen Eternal Witness + Green Sun yet?  I know that it's essentially just a 4cc 2/1 Regrowth, but the option of regrowing a Swords to Plowshares or an Engineered Explosives is too nice to pass up.  Additionally, I'm going to try out the 1-of Glissa, the Traitor.  It can brickwall pretty much every creature in the format, and has a very relevant ability for when it's fetched.

Probably one of the best interactions is 'bringing down the curve' with Green Sun to make Dark Confidant even better - and we didn't even need to make him better!

There will be a little tinkering of this deck between now and the weekly tournament, as 15 Gruesome Encores is not actually a legal sideboard, but there is a high likelihood that there will be Punishing Fire/Grove of the Burnwillows.

It's good.  You just have to trust me.

Granger Guildmage is awesome, is what he is.

Him, Dark Confidant, and Green Sun were pretty much the only things worth getting excited about from the deck.

His uses? That one copy of him killed about 3 Phyrexian Revokers and 3 Noble Hierarchs last night. When you have Green Sun, this gives you the flexibility to kill a limited number of threats - many of which are actually threats: Dark Confidant, Vendilion Clique, Noble Hierarch, Phyrexian Revoker, random Elves. In this deck, he could also make Dark Confidant trade up with a 3/3, or make him attack into x/2's.

I'm going to sing the praises of this one for a while.
