Become a fan, get free stuff!

We now have a Facebook fan/like page, and as the page does say: starting July 9th, we will be raffling off a draft set every other week on whichever medium you like the most!  This would be:

  • If you draft at Get Your Game On in Ann Arbor, MI, a free FNM entry
  • If you draft locally and not in Ann Arbor, we will mail you your draft set
  • If you, like many of the writers for this website, like to draft on MTGO, we'll give you some free packs with which to draft
If you would like an entry into the raffle, become a fan on Facebook here.

Happy drafting,
-G

Kai Draft #11 (8-4)

Been a while since I've been back to the grind. Posting up a fun one for your viewing/criticizing pleasure.

Pack 1, Pick 1:

Your run of the mill World Cup second round and new extended preview part 1.

I have always been fascinated by the strategical aspects of soccer.  Often one can compare them well to a match of magic, you have the players that start the match playing certain tactics very dependent on the opponent.  "Mis-assignment of role equals game loss," is very applicable to soccer, if you have superior attacking players one shouldn't attempt to defend all game, nor trade punches with an opponent who is better in attack.  Furthermore, sideboarding and substitutions are very analogous with both just adding better cards and also completely changing a team or deck's strategy.

Legacy Weapon - 2 - The Anatomy of a Ham Sandwich

It may not be apparent to everyone, but make no mistake - innovation in Legacy is very dear to me, as the format is incredibly large.  Finding cards that do exactly what you need them to do is difficult, and making sure they fit your mana curve is even more difficult.  That said, here is a deck that I've been piloting for a couple months now, to local success:

"Intuition Loam", or "Ham Sandwich", or "Maybe one of the most difficult control decks you'll ever pilot"

Drafting with Kai: Adventures with Asian Ringer

This is going to be a theory piece rather than a recap of a particular draft. I will highlight a few drafts I've done where perhaps no one else would've made the same picks. Rather than spoiling the results of those drafts I will simply go through my reasoning and let you judge for yourselves. Enjoy!

PTQ Amsterdam Report

This past weekend I attended a PTQ in Fargo, ND. I played Jund designed by Matt Mcclough and went 4-3. Continue reading at your leisure.
